The European Transport Initiative ITE is a federation of different transit traffic organisations from the Alps and other sensitive regions such as the Pyrenees.

Its goal is to help the implementation of a transport policy friendly for both humanity and the environment, particularly in the Alps and other sensitive regions in Europe.

In October 1995 the Manifesto of Strasbourg was adopted. It sets out the basic principles of a human and environmentally friendly transport policy. It's aim is to show that there are solutions for the problems in the area of freight transport across the Alps and other sensitive regions.

The ITE-network wants to intensify contacts between environmental organisations and protest groups who fight against excessive transit traffic and to improve cross-border information exchange.
